Green FabLab
Our FabLab Creative Centre had the green principles of creative functioning embedded in its DNA at its inception. It was created by revitalization of unused premises of Trenčín University A. Dubček University campus in Záblatí. Even the name of the street where FabLab is located – Ku kyselke – has a green character embedded in it.
Revitalisation of the older premises was key to the development, not the construction of a new site. The revitalisation was in the form of the re-invigoration of a separate campus with a new use for shared FabLab-type craft workshops, whose focus is complementary to other parts of the university and is unique.
In revitalizing the outdoor areas, we removed old environmental burdens. The newly built exterior will feature play elements for sport, relaxation and creative creation. The area was reclaimed by planting new greenery and a system of water retention from the roofs in the landscape was built. Energy efficiency and technology were taken into account when planning the technological equipment of the FabLab. These cover the whole portfolio of creative work, including green technologies.
To improve the accessibility and connectivity of university buildings and improve the mobility of students, staff and FabLab members within the city of Trenčín, we operate a shared electric mobility system. This is primarily powered by solar energy.
We want to apply green principles and elements of sustainability and circular economy also in the operation of FabLab and activities to support creative potential in the Trenčín region. The work will focus, among other things, on the reuse of recycled materials in creative work. Attention will also be paid to the prototyping of smart green technologies.
Our way is creative and green. Walk it with us.
